Culturally Sensitive Events

Culturally Sensitive Events

The events industry is not excluded from cultural appropriation. In this episode, host Reyna Caraveo discusses how to find a balance between representing cultures, honoring traditions and being authentic in events without being offensive, too literal, or stereotypical. As event professionals creating the work others draw inspiration from, we need to be thoughtful about culturally sensitive events.

In the episode we discuss:

  1. Cultural appropriation within events.
  2. Being culturally authentic with event design.
  3. Setting the example as an event professional for others.
  4. Honoring cultural traditions without being offensive or stereotypical.
  5. The fine line between themed events and representing cultures.
