Experience in the Event Industry

Experience in the Events Industry

If you’re tuning into this episode, we’re going to guess it’s because you’re interested in being a part of the event industry in one shape or another. Sometimes one of the hardest parts about getting started is getting experience in the event industry.

Today’s episode features guest Darcy Hamilton of Hamilton Wedding Finishing sharing her journey of getting experience in the event industry and how you can too. With 13 years of experience, she knows just how important it is, and knows the best tips and tricks for how to get it.

In this episode:

  • Exposure vs. academic education and whether or not you need a degree, or formal education in the event industry.
  • The different skills you didn’t know you’d need to learn in the event industry.
  • The people you need to connect with as soon as possible and adding diversity to your portfolio.
  • All the different ways you can gain experience as an event professional.

One of our favorite takeaways that Darcy gives us is that in order to grow in this industry and gain the experience you want and need, you have to get a little uncomfortable and keep doing it over and over and over again.

If you’re looking to gain experience in the event industry, you’re not going to want to miss out on listening to this episode.

Darcy is the Day-of Coordinator for the DIY Couple. She realized there was a great need for help with the execution of a DIY wedding when she planned her own in 2006! Soon after, she began helping friends and family with their weddings, and with over 12 years of wedding finishing under her belt, she offers her Day-of Coordination services to couples in the Austin, San Antonio, and Hill Country area.
