March 18, 2020

Do you feel like things are out of control and are overwhelmed? In this week’s episode, host Reyna Caraveo discusses what you can and can’t control during unprecedented times as an event professional.

As event professionals, it is our job to be in control most of the time. To some degree, there are certain factors we simply can’t control from event to event. Such as people not RSVP-ing, not showing up to events, or not following the order of events. But when unprecedented events take place, it can be very challenging for us, especially when we don’t feel in control.

At this time, the state of the world is one of panic and fear. Due to a global pandemic, adversely affecting the events industry, a lot of professionals don’t know what to do when they reigns have been take away.

Rather than focusing on what you can’t control, it’s important to dedicate your time to what you can. One of those is the way we handle the current circumstances with grace and professionalism. A key piece is communicating with your clients, contacts, and vendors. Everyone is is uncharted territory right now, and we rely on the professional advice from one another as a community.

As a part of that communication, be proactive and take precautionary measures to ensure the safety of your clients and staff. Check out this post for resources on protocols and guidelines. It’s our responsibility as event professionals to get the job done, and we are well prepared for the unexpected.
